VICTORIAN - STIRLINGSHIRE R.V. ( ARGYLL & SUTHERLAND HLDRS. ) - O/R'S SHAKO

Rare shako for the Stirling Rifle Volunteers circa 1860's.
They later become the 7th Argylls and as part of the 4th V.B. previous to that, some members served in the Boer War.
All original , green ball tuft absent.
Green / red / white dicing.
Volunteer Rifles brass bugle badge with " 23 " ( Cathcart ).
Original chin strap , leather good.
Red quilted lining with light tan leather sweatband.
Original braided cap lines with acorn ends.
Well detailed blackened lions head bosses correct male and female.
Shellac leather peak with green underside.
Good size 56/57.
Retains it's shape
Now the issues.
Couple of small moth nips here and there, sweat band partially detached at one side, some fraying to the red silk, stitching on the peak has rotted at one side likely due to resting on the peak.
Good overall especially for the age and displays very well and as said , untouched original piece.
From my personal Argylls collection.
