WW1 - COSSIPORE ARTILLERY - PIPERS BONNET C/W BADGE & COCK FEATHER - RARE
An extremely rare and likely near One Off piece .
The only other I know of is in a museum in Dundee donated by an ex member of the Regiments family.
All original Balmoral bonnet as worn by pipers in the Cossipore Artillery Pipes & Drums.
Raised in 1884 .
Wool bonnet with silk tails approx good size 56/57.Red Touree to top.Silk trim.
Beautiful large unmarked heavy cast silver cap badge with diagonal lugs as commonly found on Indian pieces i.e. Calcutta Scottish.
Star of the Order of the Thistle with voided centre with Artillery device to centre. This surrounded by a strap with " Cossipore Artillery ".
On the reverse there is a slot which was seemingly for holding a piece of felt to highlight the centre ?
Topped by a Kings Crown.
Mounted on a fringed silk rosette.
C/W it's original to it Black Cock feather behind the badge, this on it's own a very hard to find item especially in this good condition, most being rather sorry looking on the odd occasion I come across them.
Extremely rare.

Raised in 1884, the Cossipore Artillery Volunteers, was a Calcutta based volunteer artillery unit officered and largely drawn from ex pat Scots from the Dundee area who had worked in the then thriving Jute trade..
Volunteers from the Cossipore Artillery Volunteers served with the Calcutta Volunteer Battery in East Africa during the Great War.
This Jute Trade although centred on Calcutta, was controlled by Scottish capital.
There were so many Scots in the regiment and with it's traditions firmly rooted in Scotland, that it boasted its own kilted Pipe Band.
