BLACK WATCH - VICTORIAN OFFICERS SUN HELMET - SILVER / GILT HELMET PLATE. - KIRKWOODS

Superb officers example of a rare badge worn on the white helmet.
Made by " KIRKWOODS " of Edinburgh and with their jeweller tablet to rear.
Kirkwood were imo, the best of the Edinburgh military outfitters and made their own badges as opposed to other Military Tailors who farmed them out to local silversmiths and had their details impressed to the back.
Unmarked silver and gilt.
QVC.
Circa 1881 to 1914. ( K & K 256 ).
4 lugs, these in silver, unusually all 4 are present.
Long scrolls. 3 piece construction.
This is a larger badge than the post Victorian examples.
Some polishing to high points and "St. Andrew ".
Still with original long cotter pins, these rounded for the shape of the cloth / sun helmet it was worn on.
A very rare, attractive high quality piece by Scotlands top silversmith .
